Art is one soul talking and another soul listening ...

The Sculpture Garden is a relaxing place for you to see and enjoy the sculptures in a natural setting ...

..... and a wonderful place for me to work.

I prefer to use smaller studio rooms in the grounds of the chapel as this allows me to choose the workplace to suit the piece I'm creating. I’ve had large single-room studios in the past and though they are useful working environments they can feel a bit soulless - like a unit on an industrial estate.

No matter what tools we use, no matter how urban or industrial our surroundings, nature is the very root of all human creativity and endeavours and I, as a sculptor, had reached the point where I needed something more than just four walls and a roof; I needed to see the wildlife as I model the wax, to hear the rustle of the trees as I work the stone and to feel the warmth of the sun as I sketch. This is a very primal way to be creative, but art is primordial.

I’ve always said that Art is one soul talking and another soul listening. Art is created deep within the artist. and you are moved by a work of art (whether music, dance, theatre, literature, painting or sculpture) when it reaches in and touches something deep within you. Working in open studios keeps me close to that core source of creativity.
